On your marks… it’s the Great AB Bake Off

We may not have a big, white tent or Paul Hollywood’s piercing glare, but the Great AB Bake Off has become as much of an institution in our corner of Bermondsey Street as the TV show itself.

Now in its fifth year, we call on the hidden talents of our contestants to whip up a sweet treat – all in aid of a charitable cause. And who needs a professional baker to judge the entries when you have 30 sugar-loving colleagues to sample them?

Last week’s debut round revealed that in 2017 the competition is as tough as an overbaked sourdough, with our first three bakers rising to the challenge to produce a mouth-watering batch of cakes.

They proved a hit on Twitter too with our charity beneficiaries Macmillan Cancer Support even stepping in to vote for their favourite looking bake.

Six more bakers are yet to step up to the gingham altar, with bread, then biscuit week sure to get tummies rumbling, before the final showstopper bake determines this year’s Star Baker.

In the busy world of internal communications, it’s not unusual to look up from your desk at 5pm and wonder where the day has gone. As well as feeding our strong desire for baked goods, the Bake Off is a great way to take five minutes away from our desks to have a cuppa and catch up with colleagues.

So why not organise your own Bake Off – for a good cause or just for fun? It’ll leave you feeling refreshed (albeit slightly overstuffed) and ready for the day ahead.
