MD Katie Macaulay takes a sideways look at the findings of the Gatehouse State of the Sector Report.
Each year the Gatehouse State of the Sector Report gives us a definitive snapshot of employee communications. When I read its 2018 report, a clear correlation between the findings began to emerge.
When the fundamentals are not in place, the consequences are often disastrous.
Not having a written communications plan or dashboard to monitor outcomes will inevitably mean leaders are, at the very least, unclear about what we do and why we do it. Therefore, it should not be a surprise that almost one-third do not consider us trusted advisers.
If there is no framework setting out the purpose, audience and measurement of each channel, surely it is no wonder the volume of communication inside 45 per cent of organisations is too high or the corporate narrative is unclear.
The implication is unavoidable – failure to lay the cornerstones of good practice, creates a fundamental flaw in all future activity.
