Lessons learnt by a work experience student

My time at AB has enhanced my skills and knowledge of the business world, which will be useful in my studies and later life.

Internal communications is a very important aspect for any business, so it was fascinating to see what AB creates for its clients’ employees. To be able to help the team for a short period of time was an amazing experience.

I enjoyed going along to photo shoots and video shoots, seeing firsthand how reporters get information for their articles. It was interesting to see how the reporters conduct themselves in a professional but approachable way, squeezing as much as they can from the situation to create readable, informative stories. I carried out research for the team, compiling ideas for small business advice, which enabled me to use the skills I have already learnt in my studies.

The AB team is unique; everyone in the office was welcoming and always happy to help. I was never pushed to the side and forgotten about. They were happy to explain what needed doing, while always being friendly and informative when I had any questions.

I was asked to rewrite an article, which pushed me out of my comfort zone; I took the opportunity with both hands and hopefully did myself some justification. These experiences have been intriguing, and trying new things will definitively have a positive impact when I go into the working world.

Overall my time at AB has been really fun. I have learnt lots and will use my time here in a positive way to enhance my growing skillset. I‰’d like to thank MD Katie Macaulay for the opportunity and the AB team for being great over the last two weeks.
